Becky Powell, a 41-year-old kindergarten teacher, turned her free time into a lucrative side hustle. On maternity leave eight years ago, she started creating educational worksheets for a platform called Teachers Pay Teachers, right from her home.
Her online store, Sight Word Activities, offers literacy tools for young students. Initially, it was just a modest income, but it soon grew to cover significant expenses, like student loans. Now, she and her husband Jerome, who also runs an online store, have turned it into a six-figure business. Last year, Becky’s store alone made $125,500, averaging over $10,400 a month.
Jerome, a computer engineer, contributes an additional $50,000 annually from his store, Editable Activities. Becky highlights the passive income aspect of her business, with old worksheets still bringing in thousands each year.
